I love exploring music with my students.

Music is endlessly fascinating and I learn more with each student that I am privileged to work with. Besides teaching, I am a member of the Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association (ORMTA) Central Toronto Branch (past President) and organize our annual composition master class. You can learn more about ORMTA's great student opportunities at ormtactb.com.

Education

  • Bachelor of Music, Honors Theory and Composition (Western University, 2002)

  • Master of Arts, Music Theory (University of Regina, 2008)

       Masters Thesis:

“An Analytic Method of Motion Quality: A Study of S.C. Eckhardt-Gramatté’s 6 Caprices for

        Piano”

  • University Teaching Certificate (University of Regina, 2009)

As a musician, I have worked in Canada and the United States as a private music teacher, church music director, choir accompanist, ballet accompanist, collaborative pianist to vocalists and instrumentalists, university theory and keyboard harmony instructor, and I have given workshops on music teaching.

I am forever curious and seek to improve my music knowledge and teaching skills. I attend music teaching workshops, academic music conferences, and read scholarly articles and books on various music subjects. I continue to take piano lessons to refine my abilities and for the pleasure of exploring contemporary repertoire and works by woman composers. I currently study with Eve Egoyan, artist/concert pianist, new music specialist, and composer.

In my teaching practice, I enjoy discovering and developing the particular musical personalities of my students. I aim to keep their musical doors open (i.e. make advanced study possible) by offering a solid and well-rounded grounding in technique, expression, theory, music history, and composition. I am detail-oriented, I delight in problem-solving and I am demanding, straightforward, and kind.

During my free time, I enjoy hiking, swimming, jogging, and x-country skiing and I love to stretch my creative abilities otherwise with drawing, sewing, and gardening.

I believe we all have musical and creative abilities that, with mindful tending, can flourish.
